I had the incredible opportunity to read the advanced copy of “In the Wake of the Wicked” by VB Lacey.

This blend of fantasy and romance is set against the backdrop of a cutthroat magical tournament orchestrated by the Emperor, this standalone novel marks the beginning of an interconnected series that promises to enchant with its richly developed world and intriguing characters.

Lacey masterfully crafts a world filled with political intrigue and magical trials, where Rose’s, FMC, journey is as much about internal discovery as it is about external conflict. The dynamics among the characters, particularly the tension and angst between Rose and a mysterious rebel, add layers of depth to the story. Their witty banter and palpable chemistry are highlights, bringing an engaging balance to the darker themes of the narrative.

Reading this book was so much fun! I was hooked right from the prologue, There were quite a few times that the plot twists got me and a couple times it broke my heart. This book had everything from deadly trials, mythical creatures, shifters, curses, magic, unique magic system, and the tension between the main characters is amazing! I ate this book up.
