Welcome to the spicy side

The Office of Historical Corrections by Danielle Evans

I had just finished a long series of books, well, finished what has been written and was left on a cliff hanger but the author hates me.

Anyway, I needed something different to get me out of the constant thoughts of this series and heard about this book which is a collection of short stories.

There are 7 stories and my personal favorite is the namesake. All of them were really good. Each story really explores race both in context of history and todays culture.

I felt a little like I was in High School or college again because the books really trigger some tough questions and feelings to work through. Things we need to talk about with each other as a society. For me, the most moving / thought provoking thing was a black female main character thinking as she met white people, if they knew she was human yet and just knowing that isn’t an exaggeration or even a meanness, just a truth.

It is a great book to read in between series or as a palette cleanser type book. I gave it 4.25 stars.
